We got the morning email/weather report from our local group inviting us to a Fathers Day sail at The Fludgers/Felixstowe as the wind was wsw - abit off. Mag and I went for breakfast there with my kit to check out the conditions but sadly the one sailor out on big freeride kit was struggling as the wind was too light:( As it was a nice day I decided to give it ago and rigged my 9.4 and took out the raceboard - this is only my second sail in my home spot since last November !!! I was nicely powered up and after a short beat to the pier broadreached to the River Deben, I then sailed up to Ramsholt corner which was interesting as the tide had just turned and I was sailing against it. It was windy going up river but dropped for the reach back so returned to the sea front where the wind had picked up and turned to the south, so after a great beat to the other side of the pier had another really broad reach back to the Deben. It was such good fun I did it again by which time several sailers where out at The Dip with 7.5 to 8.5 on big shortboards, I couldn't be bothered to change so continued on the longboard in winds now reaching my limit for the 9.4 but by beating and sailing broard it was no problem :) The best run of the day was when local formula sailer David Coles jioned my on his X-15 7.6 (thats a great looking sail) and isonic 111 for a beat to the Fludgers and a mega full on reach from the beach to the red bouy at the Deben mouth where I manged my best speeds and by sailing broad you could run down the waves insde of sailing straight into them like the sailors at the dip !! There was some interesting waves in the river mouth where you had to concentrate but great fun and one of my best days of the year :)
